Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, Slipknot was a nine-member alternative metal band whose members adopted numerals as performing aliases; the stabilized lineup, in order from 0 to 8, included DJ Sid Wilson, drummer Joey Jordison, bassist Paul Grey, percussionist Chris Fehn, guitarist James Root, sampler/programmer Craig Jones, percussionist Shawn Crahan, guitarist Mic Thompson, and vocalist Corey Taylor.
In 1996, the group self-released an album titled Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. and attracted the attention of several labels, including Roadrunner, which signed the band the following year. Slipknot's eponymous official debut was released in 1999.
Slipknot has been a wide attraction on Ozzfest. Many people want to see what makes this band tick. With nine members, halloween masks, and metal they certainly are an attraction.

.U.S. death metal pioneers NECROPHAGIA have set "Death Trip 69" as the title of their long-awaited new album, tentatively due before the summer via an as-yet-undisclosed label. The band is also planning a major tour with its international lineup, which includes Mirai Kawashima of SIGH, Italy's Titta Tanni, former IMMORTAL bassist Iscariah, Undead Torment, Fug and, of course, founding member Killjoy.
"Death Trip 69" will feature several guest appearances, including lead guitar parts by SLIPKNOT's Mick Thomson. SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor's "goofy cover band" The Dumfux is scheduled to perform at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines, Iowa on December 31, 2007. Also scheduled to appear are ON A PALE HORSE and SCRUE.
Taylor previously told the Des Moines Register about The Dumfux, "It's a cover thing, all about fun. Seventies punk and '80s hair metal. Just good songs, just have-fun songs with attitude."Before Corey Taylor fronted Slipknot, he was one of the D*M*F*X. Back in 1995, Taylor (then a member of Stone Sour) volunteered to play a house party with some friends. They had no set list and finished no songs before the $1,500 soundboard was destroyed. The band's first show looked to be its last, but they came out of retirement for a 2003 New Year's Eve show
